Van Boening’s hunt for another major crown on home soil gathered pace on day five, with two commanding wins over Marvin Asis and John Morra to seal his spot in the final four.
“I’m feeling good, and I think my experience is carrying me through this event. I can read the table and predict the ball movement better than most. On the flight home from the World Championship, I told myself I needed a change, so I decided to stop using the extension to see if it would help my rhythm — and it seems to be working.”
Mickey Krause was the first player to secure his semi-final berth, overcoming Aleksa Pecelj and Moritz Neuhausen in solid performances that kept his dream of a second Matchroom Major alive.
“It wasn’t my absolute best, but I stayed consistent and took my chances when they came. Winning the inaugural Florida Open would be huge — and my second major would mean even more. But there are still two matches to go, so I need to stay focused.”
Aloysius Yapp, also chasing his second major title, produced high-level wins over Naoyuki Oi and Max Lechner, holding his nerve in key moments to advance.
“Max played a great match and made a strong comeback, but I had a bit of luck on my side in that final rack. I told myself at the start of the year I would win my first Matchroom Major — now I’m here fighting for my second. That’s an incredible feeling.”
Chang Yu Lung completes the semi-final line-up after dominant victories against David Alcaide and Emil Gangflot, underlining his title credentials.
The stage is now set in the Sunshine State for a thrilling semi-final line-up — but only one will walk away as the first-ever Florida Open champion.
2025 Florida Junior Open Championship
The Florida Junior Open Championship concluded today with a thrilling final between Sofia Mast and Hayden Ernst. In a match full of tension and high-quality play, 14-year-old Ernst produced a commanding 9–7 win to lift his first junior title. The victory earned the young American the $2,500 top prize and further cemented his status as one of the brightest rising stars on the junior circuit.
Juniors aged 17 and under from around the globe battled for their share of the $10,000 prize fund, each hoping to announce themselves as the next big name in nine-ball.
